MP Cong seeks 15-day session

Staff Reporter

The Congress party has demanded from Governor Om Prakash Kohli to extend the duration of the winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from five days to 15 days. Chief whip of the Congress party in Assembly Ramniwas Rawat made this demand through a letter to Governor Kohli on Sunday.

Rawat, in his letter to the Governor, said, "The duration of the fourteenth session of the Assembly that would be the winter session should be extended from the scheduled five days to 15 days, besides discussion on all the 156 tabled reports should be done." Rawat also expressed concern over not holding any discussions on the reports tabled during the twelfth and thirteenth Vidhan Sabha. Besides, he said that discussions over important issues like poor roads, buildings, bridges and culverts, dams, unemployment, deteriorating law and order situation, death of the children due malnutrition, corruption in nutritious food distribution, continuous suicides by farmers, increasing incidents of jail breaks due to mismanagement in jails, deaths in police custody, distribution of adulterated wheat, death of patients in Government hospitals due to deteriorating health services in the State.

Financial corruption in Simhastha 2016, finding of disproportioned property during the lokayukta and Income tax raids, scam by the public relations department in allotment of advertisements and other burning issues have to take place, that is why five days would not be sufficient for the winter session, he added.

He said that all these issues are in the interests of the people of State and hence discussions over them in the Assembly under constitutional arrangements are necessary. It is improper to say that there is no business for the Assembly session as the issues mentioned earlier are also Assembly business, he added.

He said that the BJP Government of the State is continuously reducing the Assembly sessions to prevent discussions over the burning issues and public interest issues that is against a healthy democratic system.
