The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has signed a letter of Intent (loI) with Hiroshima University (HU), Japan, for research partnership. The loI was signed by Dr Girish Sahni, DG, CSIR and Dr Mitsuo Ochi, President, HU. The synergistic partnership between the two organisations would leverage translational research in the cutting-edge technology domains. The technology areas include: electronics, advanced manufacturing, environment and intelligent transportation. Both of these institutions have a very strong knowledge base in diverse Science & Technology areas and have contributed significantly over the years.

Specialised projects would be pursued in the area of sensors, high-speed vision, robotics etc. The aim is to focus on emerging issues related to the environment. Intelligent transportation will be an area of major focus.

The collaboration opens up opportunities for submission of the research projects to international funding agencies.  The intellectual property will be secured jointly by the two organisations. There will be researcher/ faculty/ student exchange programmes.  The students from both the sides thus will get an opportunity for training in the advanced laboratories of these organisations.

The merging relationship between CSIR and Hiroshima University is a unique example of research collaboration between the two institutions of international repute for the global good.
