A father worried about the emotional trauma his son was going through came asking: “It is believed that marriages are made in heaven. Is marital breakup also preordainedIJ
If so, is there a remedy available following which such crisis could have been avertedIJ My son had marriage of his choice, but it could not stand the test of time. Within two years of his marriage, it failed. What next nowIJ Is there any chance of fresh marriage that grants him emotional happinessIJ”
Well, destiny does play its part in our lives. But we are not slaves to them either. For, we are also endowed with the power of freewill, duly aided by faculty of discriminate intelligence. Applying this prerogative of ours, we are empowered to turn our lives into beautiful experiences through conscious efforts, provided we try to live mindfully. What does living mindfully meanIJ A mindful living calls for knowing the self — our mental orientation, both our positives and negatives as reflected in our destiny — that sets the trends of our lives. Should we know ourselves, we shall be able to work upon the limitations of our minds. The conditioning of minds thus overcome, the expanse of one’s vision widens. That facilitates understanding the dynamics of life better. It then becomes possible to appreciate other’s concerns as much as one’s own. So they are able to relate well with those around. life then turns beautiful.
The paradox, however, is that being stuck to our own mental conditioning, we expect others and those around us to behave accordingly. We forget that others would also expect things to happen their ways. And the result is there for all to see. For, seldom are we able to appreciate other’s sensibilities. The societal dynamics thus goes for a toss. Contextually, it will be appropriate to recall here the saying of Swami Vivekanand: “The mistake with us is that we want to tie the whole world down to our own plane of thought (our mental conditioning) and to make our mind the measure of the whole universe.”
Remember, we do not fail in life because it is so scripted in our destiny. We invite suffering because we fail to live mindfully. So it happened to the son of the questioner, stuck to his habits and attitudes. His wife would also have had her own shortcomings. But before you expect from others to behave, one should try to correct oneself. let us now look at the astrological pointers in the young man’s chart.
First, his Virgo lagna cusp sandwiched between two malefic planets — Mars and Saturn, each other’s dire enemies in terms of characteristic features. That makes him suspicious and revengeful. Habitually, he expects others to be true to his expectations. And if the other side fails to be true to his predetermined parameters of life, he will be overcritical and pass caustic remarks, thus earning the ire of others. Saturn in lagna, placed adverse to mind-indicator Moon, speaks of his negative orientation of the mind, not open to listening or counsel. The Sun placed opposite Uranus makes him self-willed, tactless and the one whose idiosyncrasies could put him into self-destructive acts. Moon placed adverse to Uranus accounts for his mercurial temperament. Emotion-signifying Venus placed adverse to Moon and Saturn, makes him oversensitive, moody and vulnerable to emotional crisis and conflict. Mars placed adverse to mischievous Neptune points to his inferiority complex that makes him vulnerable to mindlessly misdirect his energies towards unbecoming ends. Saturn placed adverse to Uranus makes him restless, argumentative and illogical. These negatives put together often stand in way of his positives, otherwise immense, from coming into active play. And the result is there for all to see. Confucius gave a clue to mindful living through his one-liner: “Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.”
