An old man, who is in his late 90s, has amassed a lot of wealth through dubious means. Having retired long back, he has no occasion to fleece others anymore. However, the habit to extort others still seems to be playing heavily in his mind and chasing him all these long years since his retirement. Otherwise, he would not continue to play all his tricks to extort whatever he can from his only son, the one possible source available now, on one pretext or the other.
The son tried to accommodate him so far as it did not encroach upon his basics. The old man’s desire level would keep growing day by day. Of late, the old man’s expectations became so unrealistic that it would eat away his son’s entire resources. The son then had no option but to refuse dancing to his father’s tunes anymore. And a dogged fight has followed. As a consequence, neither the old man is at peace nor anybody else in the family.
Habits die hard, and I am afraid he will exit this world with memory imprints of this habit intact in his subtle mind. Going by the precepts of Indian philosophy, the memory imprints carried forward will set the premise of his desire trends during the succeeding life, and with obvious consequences. The old man flaunts himself as the most religious and judicious person. He has a full-fledged temple in his house where qualified priests perform regular prayers every morning and evening. He can be often seen reading and quoting religious texts. But for what, if it cannot bring any change in his thought processIJ Truth remains that he may be academically aware, but all those teachings do not seem to have registered its presence in the inner realm of his mind. Otherwise, the theory of karma — “what you give to others has to come back to you in equal terms in the succeeding life” — would have remained in his mind and accordingly shaped his thought process. This he seems to have conveniently forgotten.
It will be interesting to look at the astrological pointers in the old man’s chart. The lagna lord Venus and the purvapunya (ethical values carried over from the past birth) signifier Saturn exchange houses. It implies that his inner self will be at variance with how he presents himself. The Sun placed adverse to Venus posited in a materially-oriented sign in the first place points that his emotional frame is so impaired that he may not have any concern for others. Second, he would have begun his life in financial depravity. That initial sense of want has gripped his psyche so much that he keeps craving to accumulate more and more. Intelligence-signifying Mercury placed adverse to Jupiter and Ketu accounts for his impatience, fussy thinking and poor judgement. The mind-signifier Moon, which incidentally being the 10th lord also signifies his career aspect, is exalted. But Moon is also locked in adverse formation with materially-oriented fiery Mars and mischievous Neptune. That speaks of a person suffering from inferiority complex. He will remain stuck to his self-delusions, whims and fancies, distanced from ground realities. It also implies a mischievous mind working full time to serve one’s vested interest even if it means compromising values. And the result is there for all to see. I wish he wakes up to make necessary amends before it becomes too late for him.
