The Hindu month of Shravana takes off today. The whole of this month is dedicated to lord Shiva. For, the symbolism of lord Shiva offers lesson in the “Art of living”, vital to smooth run of life through the complex structure of a world marked with all its diversity and enormity.
Remember, every individual born into this world is unique in terms of mental traits, desires and intelligence levels, often crossing path with each other. What compounds the problem further is the indwelling sense of duality driving our minds, which makes us vulnerable to take opposite stance over similar issue. The world thus remains a natural breeding ground of conflicting thoughts and interests. Transcending these limitations, we are expected to work towards a smooth and happy run of life. HowIJ
A look at the import of lord Shiva’s wedding ceremony offers the right guidance. It comprises of multitude of species, all with their individual strengths, limitations, and varying traits with inherent incommunicability amongst them. Yet, Shiva does not differentiate and remains in accord with all and sundry. He can see through his intelligent eyes their individual limitations, but he ignores them. For, he is aware that every existence is imperfect by itself. But it is through these imperfections put together that one could address our existential needs. And if each one carried their individual limitations, they are also endowed with such virtues as would be essential for attending to one or the other existential needs. For instance, termites usually spoil our books and wooden material. But they also create a hole into our earth mass up to three metres depth. They, thus, facilitate entry of oxygen deep inside the soil structure to activate soil’s dynamism.
But the termites have to meet their end after discharging their obligation before the crop comes up. So they are assigned other species as well with one or the other virtues to support our existential needs. Evidently, therefore, lord Shiva wishes to get the best out of all, so as to ensure a smooth run of existential order. It is in this spirit that he maintains accord with all.
The human order, too, is laid out on similar lines. Each individual is born imperfect calling for support from other imperfect ones so as to fill each other’s voids and together attend to their existential needs. For, here again, if one carries individual limitations, he/she would be armed with their individual specific virtues as well, and in fact, quantitatively more. The paradox, however, is that even though we ourselves may not be conducting in orderly fashion, but we expect others to behave perfectly. And if the other person does not prove true to one’s expectation, he/she may become overcritical of others, and the fight begins. And with the growing impatience and intolerance amongst the new generation, this malady has been of late growing beyond proportion. As a consequence, marital discords have been on the rise day by day.
The other day a feuding couple came seeking guidance for how to improve their relationship. Explaining the concept as discussed above, they were advised to first acknowledge the fact that none of the two was perfect, and therefore, they need to accept each other the way they are. Second, to make their life easy and happy, they should innovate ways and means, how to be accommodative of each other ignoring few negatives that they both have. Third, they should acknowledge and be appreciative of each other’s positives, and in larger interest not dwell on each other’s negatives as they have been till date. And then they were made aware of their negatives as figured out through astrological analysis, and advised how to address them.
The male partner’s astrological pointers revealed that he had an inflated ego, as would Mars placed opposite Jupiter suggest that makes him stuck to his self-defined dos and don’ts. He as well as his wife have a negative bent of mind, coming as it may with saturn in unholy alliance with moon in both the charts. The sun, ill-disposed to uranus, reads together with the moon crossing paths with mars and that makes him temperamental and eccentric. Moon, ill-disposed to jupiter, makes him much emotional.
What complicates the problem further is that the lady is still stuck to her self-delusions, which does not allow her to come out of her fanciful expectations from marital life, quite at distance from ground realities. Should they follow the advice in right earnest, I am sure their life will turn into beautiful experience.
