We are all aware that each mind, according as it is inherently framed, defines and drives the functional mandate of a being. Invariably, we remain stuck to the window frame it allows us. So, seen in a working sense, the question that arises is: Are we made out to play second fiddle to the mind, or could we go beyondIJ
While looking for answer, another question crops up: Does mind have an independent status inlaid with the vitals necessary to perform all by itself in its own rightIJ If that be so, even after a being’s death, mind would be able to make cognisable presence by continuing to react and respond to external promptings, which it doesn’t. The question now is: What is missing in a dead being whereby mind fails to make its presence felt and which otherwise being available to a live person, empowers the mind and gross-body discharge their dynamic functionalitiesIJ
The defining factor is the absence or availability of the eternal force of consciousness. Evidently, therefore, mind operating on a borrowed strength does not qualify to be accorded an independent status. What is mind thenIJ Going by ancient India’s philosophic perception, force of consciousness projects mind as an instrument, which serving as the former’s carrier holds the key to all aspects of human dynamism. Mind, therefore, in no way qualifies to become our master.
And if mind does not have an independent existence, it leaves enough of scope to transcend its limits. But, it is easier said than done. For, mind spares no efforts playing a spoilsport in our endeavour to use it as an instrument. The paradox is that though mind works on borrowed strength, it does simultaneously enjoy a certain level of independence. Given the power of freewill, mind enjoys the privilege to make choices. Obviously, when a choice option is in hand, the probability of its use and misuse remains equal. And there is nothing like a free lunch in this world. If we are to enjoy freedom to make choices, owning up the responsibility for the consequences thereof becomes imperative. That inevitably binds us into a continued chain of “Cause-Effect”, stretching on even to successive lives, and which works in a self-automated mode. As a consequence, we enter the world with a Karmic baggage – a stockpile of memory imprints carried over from the past — coming as they may with learning and unlearning, experiences had, and unfulfilled desires.
The Karmic baggage we carry, preconditions our unitary mind one way or the other, which involuntarily defines our self-beliefs, desire trends, virtues and attributes, as well as habits and attitudes. The term ‘unitary mind’ has been purposefully employed to lay emphasis on the uniqueness of every individual mind, each reflecting varying inherent traits. Mind, thus, allows us a restricted window vision to capture the world view. Guided by these inlaid memory imprints, with add on from tempting environmental influences matching to window frame set by the former, mind gets going. And then it keeps us so badly engaged into its wanderings that it does not leave much of a scope to look beyond its limitation.
Here again on the strength of the power of freewill, one could make conscious choices purported to modify the imprints of past doings. Also, free our minds of all inconsequential and negative thought-imprints, which otherwise, keep our mind unnecessarily wandering, like a monkey randomly jumping from one tree to the other. We could also consciously feed educative inputs in mind and redefine our thought process. Following this very route, transcending the mind, one could get well tuned to the force of consciousness. Doors thus open up for unrestricted use of its wholesome and omniscient power, whereafter one would know no limits. But then we need to conscientiously work towards this end in all sincerity.
I explained the above concept to a hardened disciple of mind, to bring into play the seeds of spirituality lying dormant thus far. For, that alone will let her come out of her preconditioning to realise her true self. let us look at the astrological markers pertaining to her preconditioning. Gemini lagna makes her wish to live on her own exclusive terms. Being a dual sign occupied by Moon beautifully aligned to Mercury, she continuously keeps breeding thoughts, often at crossroads with each other. Mercury being ill-disposed off to Saturn accounts for her fixated one track mind. On top of that is Mars opposed to Jupiter, which speaks of an inflated ego, not open to listening.
