Focus to attain success

Focus to attain success
Published on:

A couple of years back, two young men in a state of despair writ large on their face came asking for what lied in stock of their future. “Why do you look so gloomyIJ” I asked them. They said, “Sir, we are fresh medical graduates. And, since we have passed out from a foreign university, we have to clear off a mandatory qualifying examination, but for which we cannot work as a medical professional here in India. We feel drained out following three unsuccessful attempts. And now, either we seek a job in the country from where we passed out, or explore other professions after having invested so much of our valuable time in this discipline.”

“Gentlemen, you have so far put in physical efforts, but success calls for qualitative effort, which seems to be wanting in your case. Remember, you may grasp the subject of your study, but that by itself is not enough. The subject matter needs to get fully absorbed and retained, for it to be spontaneously available when needed. Only then you may be able to appropriately answer the questions asked at the examination, and within the time frame allowed. That calls for a focused study, which seems to be somehow lacking in you,” I told them. Very softly, they registered their dissent: “Sir, we have been quite focused, but probably our luck has not been playing to our side.”

I replied, “Young men, this is not my conjecture, your astrological pointers suggest so.” Remember, there may be so many things around. The eyes, however, will seize upon only such object over which mind directs attention. Again, the inner frame of mind may be incessantly breeding fresh thoughts, but only those, over which, the mind gravitates in accordance with one’s priority preferences, could be put to rightful use. Here again, remaining focused to one’s priorities, screening off the inconsequential inducements, would call for having enough of mind space needed for due discrimination.

The paradox, however, is that our fragile impressionable minds, prompted by umpteen indwelling inducements, randomly keep wandering from one thought to the other, like a monkey instinctively jumping from one branch of a tree to the other. These inducements may pertain to our indwelling desires, or even assumed thoughts, such as sense of fear or insecurity. In the process, we lose our focus. So, outwardly, you may be putting in your best. But meanwhile, the fractured inner frame of mind gets too much cluttered with impressions of inconsequential thoughts attended to so far. As a consequence, one is hardly left with the mind-space necessary to accommodate and retain the subject matter of study, and with obvious consequences.

look at the astrological pointers of one of them. The sun is locked in adverse formation to mischievous neptune, restive rahu, and mind-signifying moon. This, when read together with jupiter being ill-disposed of to neptune, will in the first place, imply that he would be stuck to his self-defined beliefs, perceptions, and norms.

Consequently, he may not be able to set his priorities right. Second, he may not be able to figure out his own frailties that would be playing spoil-sport with him. He will rather prefer to put the blame on destiny. Third, he is emotionally fragile, which unsettles him too much when confronted with situations not true to his expectations.  Thereafter he mindlessly begins misdirecting his energies towards unproductive ends.

The moon beautifully aligned to intelligence-signifying mercury on one hand grants him a fertile mind with vision, foresight, and imagination. But, moon being locked in adverse formation to rahu also brings in a habitual worrying tendency leading to unnecessary brooding and contemplation. That makes him lose his focus. What further compounds his problem is jupiter crossing path with mercury. That brings in a vacillating tendency whereby he will be incessantly breeding conflicting thoughts, and would not be able to resolve it. And on top of that, mars is placed opposite uranus that makes him temperamental, which again makes him unmindfully misdirect his energies towards unproductive ends on even slightest provocation. And the result is there to see.

To get over their mind-trends so as to get focused to their studies, they were advised to follow “Mind-Detoxification” process before taking up the studies. For, during the process, all the indwelling distracting influences get raked up and temporarily sidelined. It then becomes possible to remain focussed to the study for a considerable stretch of time. They sincerely followed the process and two months there after, they successfully cleared off the qualifying examination.
