Buddhi, the tool to success

Published on:

In the flat where I have lived earlier, I used to wake up every morning to the sight of shining, fresh and tender leaves of a holy fig tree (peepul), all dancing in chorus at the impulse of the breeze.

They would turn upwards as if they were taunting the sky, "look, we are here to take you head on." By the evening, having faced the travails of nature, most of the leaves lost their sheen and drooped down. A few amongst them still remained firmly turned upward. So it happens in our lives as well. We all begin life with high hopes and aspirations and with a mindset as if nothing is unachievable. later, as we’re faced with the oddities of life, most of us tumble down and resign to fate. A few among us still keep marching ahead in all strength and emerge as victors.

The question is: Are the victors potentially born betterIJ This myth stands succinctly clarified by the symbolic rath (horse-driven cart) steered by lord Krishna carrying Arjun during the Mahabharata war, as is depicted in the Bhagavad Gita and Kathopanishad. The rath signifies the human body. Arjun symbolises the soul within a being and Krishna the buddhi (faculty of discriminate intelligence). Reins of horses signify the wavering human mind. The five horses pulling the rath imply our sensory organs. The grasses around the pathway stand for sensory temptations. If you let loose the reins, the horses will be drawn towards the grass and the journey will get stalled. If however, using buddhi, the reins are properly navigated, the horses will be in check, and the rath will be able to make it to the desired destination. lord Krishna, believed to be God-incarnate, symbolising buddhi, needs to be marked. Remember, the power of knowing comes from the force of consciousness flowing within a being, and which holds the key to our dynamic existence. If this could be invoked and exploited in full, one qualifies to prove to be a victor in the usual run of life, as Arjun did in the Mahabharata war.

To sum up, the potential is equally there in all of us to steer our course of life with ease and comfort, overriding all individual and external limitations coming our way. But if you fail to employ your empowerment tool, you become a victim of your own making. The truth of life is that the usual human tendency is to instinctively get drawn towards immediate sensory temptations that often makes one lose track of our priorities. And by the time we realise, the damage is done, and we are left behind in the run of life. What further compounds our problems are the inherent limitations of the mind carried over from the past that often shadow our acquired virtues. The only way out is to be on a full mental alert to keep our buddhi in an active mode.

let’s see how a potential guy failed to come up with his best because he simply did not care to rise above his inherent infirmities. look at his astrological pointers. The Sun favourably placed to intellectually-ordained Uranus speaks of being extraordinarily intelligent, armed with an innovative mind and a good organising ability. Added to that is wisdom-signifying Jupiter, extending due support to Mercury, the planet identified with intelligence. That arms him with the capacity to delve deep into a subject and come out with finer truths, and present them well in clear terms. Mercury well disposed off to Saturn points to being capable of methodically organising things in great detail. All put together qualifies him to make it big in life.

What stands in his way are his inherent frailties that retard his acquired virtues from playing to their optimum best. The Sun is placed adverse to Saturn and Neptune. This makes him lack both the will and the resolve to face challenges head on. He would be laidback, not taking action in time. He will be habitually grudging and grumbling against his seniors if they counsel him to cultivate a push, as if they underrate him. He will be a suspicious escapist. He remains stuck to his self-delusions, distanced from ground realities. Mind-signifier Moon in debilitation, is conjunct with fiery Mars as well as headless Ketu, and also placed adverse to Venus. That makes him irritable, restless, self-indulgent, argumentative, revengeful, touchy and sensitive. Mercury, ill-disposed to Uranus, makes him restive, nervous, eccentric and opinionated. On top of that is his tactless and undiplomatic conduct, as his lagna sign Sagittarius implies. And the result is there for all to see.
