The other day a lady going through a painful time came asking: “Sir, as far as I am able to recall, I have not harmed or hurt anybody in my living memory, nor consciously committed any grave mistake. I am spiritual also. Yet, how come often I have to go through stressful timesIJ”
“What do you mean by being spiritualIJ” I put up a counter-question. She said, “Sir, I regularly do Budhist chanting individually and on weekends in a group. And, I am a pure vegetarian.” Well, spirituality is not as simple as you understand. You have just submitted yourself to a religious practice of your choice, which you have been pursuing as a matter of routine. Even this should help you calm down the vagaries of mind and also temper down your ego, as you bow down before the divine. Spirituality, however, has a much wider dimension.
The calling of Spirituality is to endeavour for unfolding full human potential, which is immense, major part of which otherwise remains dormant. As already discussed in the previous issue hardly 5 per cent of the faculties of mind remain operative. More than that is subject to conscious efforts. To make up for our deficiency is what motivates us to endeavour to evolve further. Once full human potential gets unleashed, full expanse of mind-space becomes operative, thus widening the scope of one’s vision. Strength of mind gets increased. Intellect gets sharpened and one remains in full mental alert. Intellect and discriminatory faculties begin to extend intuitive support spontaneously. You begin to exhibit immense powers that would know no limit.
The process, in the first place, involves clearing off the clutters of mind – all inconsequential and negative memory imprints in store. Following that, one’s mind becomes free from all individual and collective mental and emotional limitations. Following the process, all preconditioning and predilections of mind are addressed. Further adding philosophic inputs, the dynamics of existence, macro and micro aspects both included, are understood, acknowledged and absorbed. You then realise that the universe as a whole is a unified organism, which includes the individual-self. In this scheme of things, we are all set into a compulsive interdependent frame, where all and sundry are supposed to work in support of each other, transgressing all individual limitations. The ‘Art of living’, thus fully explored and learnt, we begin to relate well with the rest appreciating each other’s concerns and sensibilities. That in turn, sets the ground for a peaceful and harmonious coexistence. life begins to move with ease and comfort.
To achieve the above end, it becomes incumbent upon us to first know ourselves thoroughly, in and out – identify and acknowledge one’s limitations – but for which it would not be possible to address them. Mind is qualified to self-reflect and know the self. But our egos often do not let us dispassionately identify our frailties. Here comes astrology to our aid, which helps dispassionately know the self.
A case in point is that of a spiritual seeker. His chart reveals that he is a very talented person with inventive and innovative mind as would the Sun placed favourably to Uranus imply. Added to that is his sense of wisdom, indicated by Jupiter and Mercury very well aligned to each other. On top of that, Jupiter in its own house together with Moon implied that he has a fertile brain with vision, foresight and imagination. But this man could not benefit out of his potential till he submitted to spiritual practice under the guidance of a proven Guru. For, Mercury locked in adverse formation to restive Rahu implied a scattering mind lacking in focus. Moon opposite Mars made him temperamental, moody, irritable, and argumentative. Venus ill-disposed off to the Sun and Moon both made him emotionally volatile. Uranus locked in adverse formation to Saturn and Neptune made him restless and nervous. On top of that the Sun and Mars both locked in adverse formation to Jupiter gave him an inflated ego.
Following spiritual path in sincerity, he got over the limitations, and turned all negative orientation of mind indicated by adverse alignment of the planets into positive. Planets are nature’s energy provider from the front. And energy has no drive of its own, it will act the way you drive. Once mind is given the right turn, the same energy acquires positive orientation, thus amplifying one’s creative potential. So, as on date the man’s better side prevails.
To sum up, Astrology serves as a diagnostic tool of spirituality.
