The challenge before us is to give free rope to the indwelling discriminatory faculty of mind, as would discussion in the previous issue imply. Mind could then, visualise things in the right perspective and guide us making right choices. For then, it will be able to look at the issues in hand with an expanded vision, free fromsamskara-oriented preconditioning of mind.
Obviously then, mind, rising above all limitations, shall come out with its optimum best. Following which, it shall, in the first place, be able to monitor inherent thought trends excited by Karmic accruals from the past. Second, it will absorb fresh educative inputs fed in, and accordingly redefine the thought process in a way that does not provide the ground necessary for Karmic accruals from the past to raise their head. And eventually lead us towards a meaningful life ahead.
Preparatory to all that is to bring the monkey-like wandering mind in check. For, it does not allow the focus and space necessary to dispassionately discriminate upon and arrive at right judgment. All the more as it stands in way of indwelling potential from coming into full play.
The irony, however, is that more often than notahamkara limits mind’s scope of vision by making it bound by the tendencies excited by our Karmic imprints. That makes it difficult to dispassionately look within to identify and acknowledge negative tendencies for necessary correction. Here, astrology can come handy as an effective diagnostic tool. For, it is premised on study of energy construct of a being. And energy knows no bias.
But all said and done, even after becoming aware of our limitations, it is not easy to rise above them. For, habits die hard. Here comes the role of an enlightened Guru. For, they first lead you through meditative and other proven techniques to free oneself of the limitations of mind. Having thus prepared, they then make you explore the dynamics of life in holistic terms and accordingly steer life in conformity with the nature-driven design parameters underlying our existence. Following which, life may turn into a pleasant experience.
It is still not easy to make destiny-bound ignorant understand that we could modify the implications of Karmic accruals from the past. The other day, I was trying to explain to an established astrologer the implications of cause and effect chain running through successive lives, which holds the key to our continued Karmic journey. It is again on this premise that astrology too works.
But somehow it could not get into his head that the basis on which our past Karma casts its stamping on our future course during present life, would equally apply to our wilful acts here and now. It implies that initiatives if any, taken as of now, could bear fruits during the present life itself.
Now to further loosen and untie the hardened knot of ignorance, a brief look into the energy dynamics of existence may prove a help. Both modern science and Indian philosophy agree on one count that energy streams excited by the primordial source set into motion the creation chain that manifested into plural world with name and form. So, all existences in the mortal world, live or inert, are nothing but manifestation of nature-driven energies.
The obvious implication is that when seen at a subtle level, a being with solid body framework remains nothing but a web of pulsating energy pattern. Mind and intelligence are again energy platforms at other levels. Even thoughts flowing through the mind are nothing but energy formations.
And we know that energy cannot be destroyed but changes forms. To quote an Australian physicist Paul Davies in this context: “To a naïve, the world is an aggregation of objects. But to a quantum physicist, every existence is a web of vibrating energy pattern, all primarily sourced to nature, so interwoven that no individual component has a reality independent of the totality, included in which is the observer.”
It will, therefore, not be unfair to hypothesise that indwelling thought energy could be given a fresh turn by projecting a particular energy formation suited for the purpose. Say for instance through recitation of mantra, which is essentially a set of syllables placed in a logical sequence to bring about a particular sound effect, which is again nothing but energy formation.
To sum up, Karmic tendencies could be very well modified through conscious efforts, and to what extent depends on how much you strive. The discussion continues.
