Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja on Thursday said that she wishes to contest the Assembly election but the final decision will be of party's high command. Selja said this a day after the Congress told its MPs that they would not be allowed to contest the Haryana Assembly polls.
Amid growing speculations over who will be the Congress's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, senior party leader and Lok Sabha member Kumari Selja asserted that the final decision will rest with the party's high command.
Talking to reporters, she said, “It is my wish to contest the Haryana assembly elections but the final decision will be of party high command. “Being a true soldier of the Congress, I can tell you that the one who gets the blessings of the high command becomes the chief minister. There may be many contenders but the final approval will be of the high command,” Sirsa MP said.
In the statement, she alleged that the BJP Government's political ground has slipped, and those sitting in the government had already sensed this. Fearing defeat, the BJP government has been avoiding conducting urban body elections. The residents of 8 municipal corporations, 4 municipal councils, and 21 municipalities are waiting for the elections. As soon as the Congress government is formed in the state, the pending urban body elections will be held.
She further said that previously, the Panchayat elections were conducted by the BJP-led Government with a delay of 21 months. Even after the elections, a conspiracy was hatched to snatch the rights of village panchayats under the guise of e-tendering. Due to the absence of a House of elected representatives, development works in municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipal areas are affected. Even the budget of the bodies cannot be finalized, she added.
