ESL Steel Limited, a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group, continues its commitment to community development, particularly among indigenous farmers near its Bokaro plant. On the International Day for World Indigenous People, ESL Steel launched a significant awareness drive under its WADI Project, in collaboration with NABARD. The event, held at Kunwarpur village, focused on educating tribal farmers about the benefits of forming Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs).
Key figures at the event included NABARD’s District Development Manager Philmon Bilung, NABCONS Consultant Mohammed Shahjahan Alam, and ESL Steel's Deputy Head of CSR, Rakesh Kumar Mishra. The day also saw the inauguration of a poultry unit under the company’s micro-enterprise initiatives.
Project WADI, ESL's flagship sustainable agriculture initiative, aims to empower over 500 tribal farmer families in Bokaro District by promoting sustainable farming practices and gender inclusion. Ashish Ranjan, Head of CSR at ESL, emphasized the project’s role in transforming barren lands into productive farmland, thereby fostering both income and prosperity for local farmers. Tribal farmers expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the project has helped them revive environmentally friendly farming methods and achieve economic viability.
