Tiger spotted in north division of PTR

Thursday, 18 July 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

The north division of the tiger reserve Palamu finds a tiger roaming around in peace and joy.

Chief conservator of forest and field director of the PTR Kumar Ashutosh said as tigers are here our staff and officials are quite alert and vigilant.

Ashutosh said, "PTR has the permission to bring in extra animals here in the PTR from a government zoo in Ranchi. The permission is from the two highest institutions of the government of India one the national tiger conservation authority and the other from the central zoo authority."

He said this bringing in is just to replenish the prey base in the PTR as its north division has more prey for the carnivores than what it has in its south division.

Field director said "Our wild life here has a right to prey. It's to ensure that prey is abundant."

P K Jena deputy director north division of PTR said today "The tiger is having its good time in the north division. It was here in November 2023. It keeps coming in and going out elsewhere in the tiger reserve."

Is this tiger any camera trapped?

Jena said "We are constantly monitoring it. It is coming in our camera traps. Our groundsmen are keeping a close tab of its movement."

Asked about its kill Jena said "Although we have not been successful in finding the residue of its kill, the way this tiger is on the move suggests it has no food issue with it."

Jena then explained it saying it's rainy time and rains may drift the residue of its kill.

Further as grasses and shrubs are up it's just possible our eyes couldn't have met with the residue he told.

A leftover of the kill by the tiger is relished by a chain of other animals like hynae, golden jackal and other scavengers.

Jena further said "We love and care for our wildlife. So we care for our trackers and daily wagers."

How? To which he said "A fleet of around 350 trackers and daily wagers in the whole of the PTR are now covered by Ayushman card. It's PM Jan Arogya Yojna. It's a visa for good health care."

Jena had a word of praise for the DC Latehar Garima Singh and civil surgeon Latehar  Dr Awadesh Singh for providing Ayushman cards to the tracker and daily wagers.

Sources in the PTR said "It's Jena who thought of it and got it done. Getting medical treatment is a very expensive affair now. But with this Ayushman coverage the anxiety for money for medical treatment is gone. A tracker or a daily wager can walk into any empanelled hospital for Ayushman for his treatment."

Jena told this correspondent that he would soon hold a session with the recipients of the Ayushman card to brief them as to how to go about it without being deceived or tricked into by vicious middlemen operating in the health sector.

According to the civil surgeon Latehar Dr Awadesh Singh "There is just one empanelled health service provider in this district where health care on Ayushman card is available. Again it is only for eyes."
