In a notable triumph for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Garhwa Assembly constituency, candidate Satyendra Nath Tiwari won against Jharkhand minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur by a substantial margin of 16,772 votes. Tiwari received a total of 131,361 votes, whereas Minister Thakur secured 114,589 votes. The election was a direct contest between the BJP and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, with other candidates failing to make a considerable impact.
A total of 20 candidates participated in the Garhwa Assembly constituency. Political analysts identified Giranath Singh of the Samajwadi Party as the primary contender, having served as an MLA for 17.5 years. There were high expectations for performances from candidates of the Bahujan Samaj Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, yet none managed to retain their deposit.
Vote counting for the election results was conducted across 20 tables over 23 rounds, during which the BJP candidate maintained a lead in each round. However, in certain areas of Garhwa block, such as Chiniya, Rank, and Ramakanda, Tiwari faced a decline in a few rounds.
According to the results, Giranath Singh of the Samajwadi Party received 7,957 votes, Ajay Kumar Chaudhary from the Bahujan Samaj Party obtained 7,621 votes, while several other candidates received the following votes: Ravindra Kumar Singh 4,502, Rampyare Pal 4,091, Lav Kumar Singh 3,139, Mohd. N Khan 2,883, Loknath Kumar 2,148, Shujauddin Ansari 1,960, Satyendra Tiwari 1,873, Parmesh Kumar 1,337, Dilip Kumar Tiwari 1,006, Mandip Mallah 904, Santosh Kumar Chaubey 766, Harish Prasad Singh 569, Girija Nandan Uraon 526, Gorkhanath Mahto 416, Sukhlal Bakhla 405, Sonu Kumar Yadav 330, and NOTA received 922 votes.
In the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, Anant Kumar Dev of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha defeated the BJP's Bhanu Pratap Shahi by a significant margin of 21,462 votes. No other candidates performed notably, with independent candidate Rahul Kumar Gupta finishing third with 5,946 votes.
