For the upcoming by-election to the Milkipur assembly constituency of Ayodhya, the Bahujan Samaj Party has announced its candidate.
Ramgopal Kori will contest the by-election on the BSP ticket.
BSP state president Vishwanath Pal confirmed that Ramgopal Kori has been appointed as the in-charge of the Milkipur assembly constituency and typically, the person appointed as in-charge is also the party’s candidate.
Ramgopal Kori previously contested from the Milkipur seat in the 2017 elections. He received 46,000 votes and finished in third place. In that election, Gorakhnath Baba of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat. In the 2022 assembly election, Gorakhnath Baba was defeated by Awadhesh Prasad of the Samajwadi Party.
Awadhesh Prasad has since been elected as a Member of Parliament from the Faizabad constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. As a result, the Milkipur seat has become vacant and will be contested in the by-election. The Samajwadi Party is expected to nominate Awadhesh Prasad’s son, Ajit Prasad, for the seat. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the by-election.
