The state-level Pulse Polio Program was launched today in East Singhbhum district by Banna Gupta, Honorable Minister of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, and Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Jharkhand. The inauguration ceremony took place at Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Ramjanm Nagar, marking the beginning of a crucial health initiative aimed at eradicating polio.
As part of the campaign, polio drops were administered to children aged 0-5 years at various booths across East Singhbhum today. Additionally, the campaign will continue on the 26th and 27th of August, with health workers, including Saheya, Sevika, and NGOs, conducting door-to-door visits to ensure every child receives the polio vaccine.
During the event, Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar personally administered polio drops to his daughter, emphasizing the importance of the program. He urged all parents to ensure their children receive the polio vaccine, highlighting the significance of being vigilant and responsible parents.
“Our aim is to immunize 395,368 children in East Singhbhum district during this campaign. We have set up 3,066 booths across the district, with 2,804 teams and 187 transit teams ready to reach every child,” said Kumar.
The event saw participation from several key health officials and stakeholders, including Dr. C.P. Choudhary, Director of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department; Dr. Sahir Pal, Civil Surgeon of East Singhbhum; Dr. Ranjit Panda, District RCH Officer; Dr. OP Kesari, District Tuberculosis Officer; and Dr. Somalia, Special Medical Officer from WHO. Also present were the District Program Coordinator, City Manager, Public Health Manager, BTT, and Saheya, all of whom played a pivotal role in organizing the event.
Banna Gupta, while addressing the gathering, reiterated the government's commitment to eradicating polio and stressed the importance of community participation in this initiative. He expressed confidence that the collective efforts of health officials, community workers, and parents would ensure the success of the program.
