Police constable Naresh Joshi who is posted as a driver in Udham Singh Nagar district will be felicitated with Jeevan Raksha Padak by the President for saving 25 lives on August 30, 2022 while risking his life. He is being awarded for his bravery under the Jeevan Raksha Padak Series Award 2023. The officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar also congratulated him for this achievement. Talking about the courageous act for which Joshi will be receiving the medal, officials said that on August 30, 2022 at 5 AM, the police received information about ammonia gas leakage from a cylinder in a warehouse located in the Transit Camp of Azadnagar area in the Udham Singh Nagar district. Many people also fell unconscious. The police force rushed to the spot after getting the information and found that many people had also started experiencing breathing problems and burning sensation in their eyes, among other health issues. Many people were on the verge of suffocating to death due to inhaling the leaked poisonous gas. The officials said that considering the severe condition of people, constable Joshi placed the cylinder in an e-rickshaw and drove it away from the densely populated area from where it was later taken in a closed vehicle for its disposal as per the procedure. Joshi displayed indomitable courage and bravery and took the leaking cylinder of poisonous gas without caring for his own life to save 25 lives. The DGP said that Joshi is a well deserving candidate for this medal and has made the State proud across the country.
