In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against extremist groups in Kolhan, PLFI (People’s Liberation Front of India) area commander Lambu was killed in an intense encounter with a specially constituted team of Chaibasa police. The operation took place in the dense jungles of Tomrong village, located under the jurisdiction of Tebo police station, on Saturday.
The Chaibasa police, acting on credible intelligence inputs, launched a well-coordinated operation to apprehend Lambu, who was wanted in several cases of extortion, murder, and other criminal activities in the region. The team, comprising personnel from district police and special task forces, was strategically deployed to intercept the commander and his associates.
According to police officials, the encounter began when the team approached a suspected hideout in the jungle. Lambu and his associates opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. The exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly an hour, during which Lambu was fatally injured. His associates reportedly managed to escape deeper into the forest, and a manhunt is currently underway.
Following the encounter, the police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the site. These included sophisticated weapons, country-made firearms, and several rounds of ammunition. In addition, police found documents and other materials that may provide crucial insights into the activities and networks of the PLFI in the region.
The officials praised the bravery and swift action of the police team, emphasizing that this operation dealt a significant blow to the PLFI, which has been a persistent challenge in the area. “Lambu’s elimination is a major success. He was a notorious figure responsible for creating fear and unrest among local communities,” he said.
Lambu, whose real name is yet to be confirmed, was a key operative in the PLFI hierarchy. He was known for orchestrating several high-profile crimes, including the murder of security personnel and businessmen who refused to pay extortion money. His operations extended across multiple districts, making him one of the most wanted criminals in Jharkhand.
Locals in Tomrong and surrounding villages had long lived under the shadow of PLFI’s influence, enduring threats and coercion from Lambu and his cadre. His death is expected to bring some relief to these communities, although concerns about retaliatory actions by the group remain.
“This operation underscores the importance of continued vigilance and proactive measures to dismantle the PLFI’s networks. The group may attempt to regroup or retaliate, so sustained efforts are essential,” said a senior police official.
The police have launched follow-up operations in the area to track down Lambu’s associates and dismantle any remaining PLFI hideouts.
