For the first time in 2024, four cities of the State on Saturday recorded maximum day temperatures of above 40 degree Celsius.
Malkangiri became the hottest place in the State with 41 degree. The other cities that recorded temperatures above 40 degrees were Boudh 40.5 degree, Titilagarh 40.5 degree and Balangir 40.2 degree. Nayagarh recorded 40 degree.
The schools across Odisha have been asked to hold morning classes from April 2 due to the prevailing heatwave-like conditions.
The State Government has asked all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools to hold morning classes from April 2, said the School and Mass Education Department in a letter to the concerned authorities.
The classes for students from Class-I to Class-XII in all government, government-aided and privately-managed schools would be held from 7 am to 11.30 am from April 2, said the department.
Besides, the schools have been asked to arrange drinking water for their students.
