Minor girl raped in Rohini, accused held

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 52-year-old man in a graveyard in west Delhi’s Rohini area under the guise of performing occult rituals to cure her ailing father.

According to the officials said on Wednesday, the accused has been identified as Mohammad Sharif who was previously known to the minor girl. “On Tuesday, a PCR call regarding molestation of a girl child aged  about 12 yrs  was received at Kanjhawala police station,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said.

According to the complaint filed by the 12-year-old victim, the accused lured her to the graveyard in Kanjhawala to perform ‘tantra’ (occult practices) to cure her father. “The local police immediately reached in JJ Colony Sawda where the victim child namely ‘ X’ reported that the alleged allured her on the pretext of performing some Tantra for recovery of her father who is suffering from chronic disease and took her to graveyard and  raped  her,” the DCP added. Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR under section 65(2) (rape on a woman under twelve years of age) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused, the police said.

“We have arrested Mohammad Sharif. The girl was also medically examined at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Further investigation in the matter is underway,” the police officer said, adding that the girl is at her home.
