Locals and cops rescued a 21 year old youth identified as Gopal Tiwary from the bed of the river Koyel last night around 7.30 pm.
Officer in charge of the Rehla police station Santosh Kumar said today the youth was walking down the pathway to the railway bridge when he slipped and fell in to the river.
Locals informed the Rehla police for help and rescue around 7.30 pm last night.
Police officer Santosh Kumar and his team rushed to the place of occurrence and found a youth about 250 to 300 feet away from the ground in the water of the river clinging dangerously to some water born bushes and shrubs there.
Sources said had the youth not clung to the water shrubs, his life would have been at risk.
Police officer said "We had taken with us a torch and old rope. The locals also brought rope."
"As it was night, rescue was not easy but the locals gave us good back up and virtually got the youth out of the water" said the police officer Santosh Kumar.
Rehla police had only last week saved a family in whose house there had entered 3 and a half feet of rain water. The water had a strong current. Police men saved the family when they were too drenched in water themselves.
Sources said these two assistance by the police under the command of the OC Santosh Kumar has won Rehla police lots of public goodwill.
