National Pollution Control Day is observed on December 2 in memory of the people who lost their lives in the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy. The theme for this year is ‘Clean Air, Green Earth: A Step towards Sustainable Living’. Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board organised a seminar in the State capital where children from various schools met renowned educationists, environmental engineering experts and industry giants and received necessary information on protecting the environment.
“It is very important for the common people to be aware of every type of pollution and how it can be harmful to our body. The main objective of National Pollution Control Day is to educate people and spread awareness about safety measures against pollution in industries. It is very important for people to know about the safety measures and ways to deal with any kind of pollution. Environmental control is a big challenge in the State and Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board is continuously moving ahead in this field and working towards reducing pollution,” stated officials of Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board at the programme.
Students from schools including Johar Academy, Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shyamali, Rain Urdu Girls High School and Kendrlaya Vidyalaya got clarity on various aspects of environmental pollution by asking question from experts like Rana Subhashish Chakrabory retired CGM Mecon, Arvind Kumar former Dean ICFAI University, Paresh Gattani President Chamber of Commerce, DK Saxena APCCF Forest and Ujjwal Bhaskar GM SAIL
The speakers appealed to the students to save Mother Earth from pollution and become the protectors of nature. They also urged the students to educate their family members, neighbours and friends about the importance of saving the earth from pollution.
An oath to avoid single use plastic and non- biodegradable items was also taken by all present in the seminar. A theme song was launched to draw the attention of the common man and make them aware of the dangers caused by the use of single use plastic items.
