Ultras of the JPC (Jharkhand Prastuti Committee) set afire 5 empty hyvas at Laat jungle between Herhunj and Latehar police stations around 1.30 am on Wednesday night.
SP Latehar Kumar Gaurav said, "The 5 empty heavy vehicles were returning to the Tubed colliery from Kusmi coal loading site when around a dozen people set those afire."
The hyvas were in row and hence the arsonists had not to do much force to burn them.
The arsonists opened indiscriminate firing in the air too which was solely for an act of terror or to puncture the peace of the winter night. The jungle is around 8kms away from the nearest police station Herhunj.
Gaurav confirmed the firing by the JPC saying no one was hurt in it. Police have recovered a hand written leaflet from the site.
The leaflet is written with red ink deliberately. It appears to be written by someone, who is a school dropout as the leaflet appears to be cloggish. The leaflet is stated to be of JPC.
It begins with Jharkhand is ours and so it is our right to prevail here. It then warns.
The warning is not to do any coal transportation and earth cutting prior to seeking permission from the JPC failing which the leaflet reads 'fouji karwai' (military action) will be done and the defiants will be at their own peril.
"There are lumpen elements who huddle together and form an outfit labelling any name of the extremism with the sole aim to create name and terror" said the SP.
This is the second incident of hyva burning in a span of just two weeks in this region.
On November 5 two hywas were torched barely 100 meters away from the Amrawadeeh police picket.
Police did crack this case by arresting half a dozen people who had worn the facade of the splinter group of the JJMP.
Sources said the stretch between Herhunj and Latehar is not only vulnerable but a soft target where such an arsoning by naxals is carried out with deadly precision.
