A two-day international conference on "Advances in Processing Technology of Flat Steel Products" concluded on September 21 at the Learning and Development Centre of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). Jointly organized by BSL and the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Bokaro Chapter, the event gathered over 100 experts, researchers, and engineers from India and abroad. More than 30 technical papers were presented, highlighting the latest innovations in flat steel processing technology.
On the second day, topics covered included the production of advanced hot-rolled steel sheets for hot forming applications, the prediction of microstructure and mechanical properties during hot rolling, solutions for edge sliver and double edge defects, reduction in pop coil generation, and the role of pre-coating in galvanizing and galvannealing of high-strength steel. Papers were also presented on the development of rolling oils.
The conference fostered knowledge exchange between industry professionals and research institutions, focusing on future steel requirements and the efforts being made in flat steel processing technology.
The closing session of the conference was attended by the Director In-Charge of BSL, B.K. Tiwari , Secretary General of the Indian Institute of Metals Headquarters in Kolkata, Brigadier Arun Ganguly ,Executive Director (Human Resources and additional charge of Works), Rajan Prasad , Executive Director (Mines), Jaydeep Dasgupta; Chief General Manager (Quality), Manohar Lal, along with other senior officials.
