The Ranchi Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting widespread rainfall activity across Jharkhand. The weather office has also cautioned about the possibility of heavy rain in isolated areas of northeastern and central Jharkhand in the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area that was previously centered over northwest Jharkhand has moved westward. It now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh. This system is accompanied by a cyclonic circulation that extends up to 7.6 kilometers above mean sea level. Meteorologists anticipate that this system will continue moving westward and could intensify into a depression over west Madhya Pradesh in the coming days.
Adding to the weather complexity, another cyclonic circulation has been identified over the north Bay of Bengal, positioned between 3.1 and 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. Under the influence of this circulation, a new low-pressure area is expected to form over the region within the next 24 hours.
The IMD has also highlighted the position of the monsoon trough at mean sea level. The trough stretches from Jaisalmer to Kota, Khajuraho, and through the center of the low-pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh, passing Ranchi and Contai, and extending southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal. Additionally, an east-west trough runs from the above-mentioned low-pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh to the northeast Bay of Bengal, extending up to 1.5 kilometers above mean sea level.
These meteorological conditions suggest sustained rainfall activity in Jharkhand, which could lead to localized flooding and disruption. The public and local authorities are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Meteorological Centre have revealed a significant drop in the state's rainfall deficit. The data indicates that Jharkhand’s rainfall deficit has decreased to 11 percent. Against a normal rainfall of 751.4 mm for this period, the state has so far received 669.5 mm of rain. This reduction in the rainfall deficit is a positive sign for the state, which has been grappling with below-normal monsoon rainfall for much of the season.
“The IMD continues to monitor the weather patterns closely and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are advised to keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for the possibility of more rainfall in the days ahead,” said an official.
