Four IEDs recovered in West Singhbhum, joint forces foil naxalite plans

Monday, 26 August 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, security forces have recovered and safely destroyed four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the West Singhbhum district. The IEDs, each weighing 5 kilograms, were discovered during a joint operation conducted by multiple security units in the forested and hilly areas around Jimki-Murumbura-Husipi, near the Tanta-Goilkera police station border.

The operation was part of an intensified crackdown against the banned CPI(Maoist) organization, whose top leaders, including Misir Besra, Anmol, Maechhu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Chaman, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin, are reportedly active in the Kalehan area. These leaders, along with their squad members, are suspected of planning subversive activities in the region.

In response to the heightened threat, a robust joint task force was formed, comprising personnel from the Chaibasa Police, Cobra 209 BN, 203 BN, 205 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar, and various battalions of the CRPF (60 BN, 197 BN, 157 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, 134 BN, 26 BN, and 11 BN). The operation, which began on October 10, 2023, spans across multiple villages under the Goilkera and Tonta police stations, including Kuida, Chhota Kuida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilaybeda Baaypaisang, Katamba, Bayahatu, Baaroy, Lemsadih, Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regada, Patatorb, Gaeburu, and Luiya.

During today's operation, the joint forces identified and neutralized four Pressure Plate IEDs (PNPs) strategically planted by Naxalites to target security personnel. The bombs were discovered in the dense forests near the Jimki-Murumbura-Husipi region. Upon detection, the bomb disposal squad immediately swung into action and destroyed the explosives on-site to ensure the safety of the forces and nearby civilians.

The discovery of these IEDs highlights the persistent threat posed by Naxalite groups in the region and the relentless efforts by security forces to maintain peace and order. The operation is still ongoing, with the joint task force continuing to scour the region for any remaining threats and working to dismantle the infrastructure of the CPI(Maoist) organization.

Local authorities have lauded the efforts of the security forces and reiterated their commitment to eliminating Naxalite influence in Jharkhand. The successful recovery and destruction of these IEDs is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the people in West Singhbhum and surrounding areas.
