Four students going to appear for Uttar Pradesh Board examination died in a road mishap in Shahjahanpur while six members of a family returning from a ‘Tilak’ ceremony also lost their lives in a road accident in Ballia.
According to reports, a van carrying students went out of control and fell into a ditch near Jaravan village on Kant-Jalalabad road early Tuesday morning. Three students died on the spot while one succumbed in a hospital.
Six students, including girls, were injured and they were admitted to a hospital.
On Tuesday, ten students of Class X were going to their examination centre when the van driver, Mulayam of Barenda village, swerved the vehicle to avoid hitting a cattle.
In Ballia, at least six people died and eight injured after a jeep collided with a pick-up truck, police said on Tuesday.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further probe is underway, the police said in a statement on X.
Ballia SP Dev Ranjan Verma said the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
“Six people died and several others were injured in a mishap involving two cars and a pickup truck around 3:30 am under Bairiya police station. The victims were returning after attending a ‘Tilak’ ceremony from Masumpur in Kherjuri area of the district. The injured have been admitted to a hospital and are under further treatment,” he added.
Four injured were referred to the BHU trauma centre. The police officer said that the deceased were identified as Amit Kumar Gupta (46), Ranjit Sharma (32), Yash Gupta (9), Raj Gupta (11), Rajendra Gupta (50). The identity of a deceased is yet to be ascertained. Yash Gupta and Raj Gupta were real brothers.
As soon as information about the incident was received, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Usman and senior officials reached the district hospital.
In another incident, two workers died and three others were injured when a boiler exploded at a tyre factory in Meerut on Tuesday morning.
Police said that the incident took place at around 5:30 in the morning in a factory located three kilometers away from Alum village under Incholi police area.
SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said that the boiler suddenly exploded in the morning, due to which Shankar (30) and Praveen (22) died while three others were injured. He said the injured had been admitted to a hospital where their condition was out of danger.
Sajwan said all the victims were residents of village Kishoripura. The SSP said preliminary investigations revealed that the boiler exploded due to high pressure.
