Focusing on improving basic amenities provided on campus: NSUI’s Rounak Khatri

The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) presidential candidate, for the upcoming Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) polls, Rounak Khatri is famous for his ‘matkaman’ campaign story and admires Lok Sabha Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda and Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav.

Hailing from Delhi’s Narela and a student of Campus Law Centre, the young student leader said that he didn’t aim to become one and rather focuses on improving basic amenities provided on the campuses while boasting about installing water coolers and air-conditioners in his college.

“I didn’t want to become a leader. I wanted to improve the facilities. There are problems with the facilities provided in the campus. If we talk about basic amenities, there is no drinking water and no good infrastructure in the classrooms. There are no benches or fans,” he said.

He added that when they demanded AC in his college, the administration denied it and said, “Then we went to the court. After going to the court, we got the order. We got Rs eight crore rupees sanctioned from there. The whole DU wants the same things and we will fight for that.”

He also recounted that he was the head boy in his school and that’s where the spark to fight for the student’s issue started. “ I was in DAV School, Narela where I was the head boy there. When I came to DU and saw that there were no basic amenities, I started working for their rights and have been associated with NSUI for the past five years,” he said.

Elaborating on why he associated with Congress’s student body, he claimed that there is freedom in NSUI including the freedom to protest and raise voices.
