Ahead of the elections 2024, former Congress leader K Surya Rao joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday.
Rao was inducted into the regional party in the presence of BJD leaders including Rajya Sabha membr Sasmit Patra during a programme at the Shankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
Rao, a former Paralakhemundi MLA, had resigned from the Congress in June 2019 following his defeat in the Assembly elections. He accused the party of ignoring him despite his efforts for the development of the party from all fronts.
Rao was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Paralakhemundi in the 2014 elections. He fought the 2019 elections from the same seat and lost to BJP’s K Narayana Rao.
