Monday, 26 August 2024 | Nityanand Dubey | Garhwa

A herd of elephants create havoc in area under Chiniya police station . On Friday late night a herd of around one dozen elephant damaging crop fields and damaged houses.

Residents, gripped by fear, refrained from venturing out of their homes as the marauding elephants wreaked havoc, causing extensive damage to groundnut fields.

They ate the crops and trampled them. America Korwa of the primitive tribal community has suffered the most loss. The elephants completely destroyed his house and ate five sacks of rice and three sacks of wheat kept in the house and destroyed household items. At the same time, America Korwa's paddy crop grown in about one acre of land and corn crop grown in two acres were trampled after eating it. The victim told that somehow he saved his life by running away with his children at night. America does not even have a place to live now. Villagers told that the number of elephants was between 35 to 40.

It is known that for the last two years, the terror of elephants has increased so much in the area that the people of the forest area are forced to leave their homes and live elsewhere.  On the other hand, due to the strike of the forest department employees, the damage to the crops and houses of the farmers is not being assessed. Here, the villagers are in great panic due to the havoc caused by elephants. It is noteworthy that the villagers have been demanding to drive away the wild elephants from the area, but till now the forest department has not taken any action.
