Delhi University Vice Chancellor(VC)Yogesh Singh on Thursday urged the Delhi Government to ensure timely release of funds (other than salaries and wages) including deficit in respect of all 12 colleges to maintain the academic standards of the institute.
He also said instructions should be given to PWD to ensure proper repair and timely maintenance of buildings and other infrastructure of these colleges in the larger interest of the students.
Giving these details after the joint meeting of the Executive and Academic Councils of Delhi University, the VC also said the Delhi Government will be requested to grant ex-post facto approval to the posts (teaching and non-teaching staff) created by the governing bodies of the respective colleges as per the norms and provisions of University of Delhi and University Grants Commission and to expedite it. These posts were created to run the courses with the consent of the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Delhi. The joint meeting also accepted the Shri Prakash Singh Committee report regarding 12 colleges. The report said their recognition cannot be cancelled.
It is worth noting that there was an intense discussion during the Zero Hour in the EC meeting held on December 15, 2023 on the allegations made by the Education Minister of Delhi Government through a letter sent to the Union Education Minister on December 1, 2023 regarding 12 colleges funded by the Delhi Government.
At that time Vice Chancellor Singh suggested the formation of an EC committee on this issue which was unanimously passed.
