Congress leaders on Tuesday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Tuesday. They also attacked the BJP-led UP government for not allowing them to take out a ‘prabhat pheri’ to mark the day.
“At the behest of the government, the administration stopped Congress leaders from taking out a ‘prabhat pheri’,” UP Congress president Ajay Rai alleged. He said Gandhi’s ideas were not going to die down due to the BJP government’s dictatorship. “The party which hails the killer of Mahatma Gandhi will not succeed in stopping the Congress from spreading the message of love, peace and brotherhood given by Bapu,” he added.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Rai, along with general secretary incharge of UP Avinash Pandey and hundreds of party workers and leaders, visited the GPO Park and garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. They paid rich tributes to Gandhi and also sang Ramdhun.
“The thoughts of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi are immortal, his principles are still a source of inspiration for the youth and the entire world, including India,” Pandey said.
“Bapu’s principles can never be irrelevant because these are the ideas of nature, and they will continue to be relevant all over the world,” he added.
