Bhopal has received 87 percent of its season's rainfall, that is, 32.7 inches. Now, if there is just 5 inches of rain, the season's quota will be full. The district's normal rainfall is 37.6 inches. This time, there has been more rainfall than the entire season of last year. Due to this, Kerwa, Kaliyasot, Bhadbhada and Kolar dams have filled to the full level.
Kerwa Dam is spread over an area of 524 hectares. Its catchment area is 54.5 square meters. Bhopal and Sehore districts are the catchment areas. When there is heavy rain here, water reaches Kerwa Dam and then its sluice gates open when it is full. Last week, it was 2 feet empty.
There has been no heavy rain in the catchment area or Sehore for the last few days, but the inflow of water into the dam through drains continued. Due to this, one sluice gate of the dam opened on Saturday. It has a total of 8 sluice gates and all are automatic. That is, the sluice gates open as soon as the water reaches 1673 level. However, water is overflowing from other sluice gates as well.
After the big pond is full, the sluice gates of Bhadbhada and then Kaliyasot Dam are opened. All the sluice gates were opened a few days ago. After the rain stopped, the sluice gates were closed.
Kaliyasot Dam in-charge Nitin Kuhikar said, as soon as there is heavy rain, all the 8 sluice ates of Kerwa Dam will also open. At the same time, water is also coming into Kaliyasot Dam. After heavy rain, the water level in it will also increase.
There is a trend of average 14 days of rain in Bhopal in the month of August and in this month 13 inches of water falls. This time there has been heavy rain for the first 4 days, while after that there was a period of light rain. Half of the rain of August quota has already occurred so far. Heavy rain is expected again after August 15.
This year Bhopal is expected to receive 106 percent rainfall than normal. Last time, 18 percent less rainfall was recorded i.e., 82 percent (30.9 inches). Meteorologists say that this time monsoon entered Bhopal on June 23. Since then, it has been raining heavily.
