Imagine teeing off under the stars during the night at the lush greens of Beldih Golf Course. Taking a cue from night golf facilities in countries like Dubai, in a landmark development for Jamshedpur's golfing community, Night Golf has been inaugurated at the Beldih Golf Course.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including DB Sundara Ramam, Jamshedpur Golf Captain and Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel, Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director of TSUISL, Neeraj Sinha, Chief of Safety at Tata Steel, and Arunava Das, Head of Water Management at Tata Steel.
When contacted, Digvijay Singh, CEO, Jamshedpur Golf, said that the initiative is a brainchild of Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director of TSUIL, who is also the secretary of Jamshedpur Golf. He said that the idea is to help the golfers to play even after the sunset. Golfers mostly being professionals are not able to take time out from their busy schedule during the day. At present, the floodlights have been introduced only in three-holes. They plan to cover all the holes in the near future.
The CEO said these lights will help the golfers to play even after the dark as days are generally shorter during winters. Even during the summers, golfers can play for longer hours.
The newly developed Par 3 course is designed to allow players to indulge in the sport during the evening hours, making it the first golf course in eastern India to offer this state-of-the-art facility. This innovative initiative is poised to revolutionize the golfing experience in the region, broadening access and appeal. The golfers can play till 9 pm.
Traditionally considered a game for the elite, golf is now witnessing growing interest from the middle class. Thanks to initiatives like Night Golf, the sport is steadily shedding its exclusive image and becoming more inclusive. The floodlit Beldih Golf Course is expected to attract not only seasoned golfers but also new enthusiasts keen to explore the sport in a unique setting.
Jamshedpur’s sporting pride lies in its two lush green golf courses: Beldih Golf Course and Golmuri Golf Course. These courses are maintained by the Jamshedpur Golf, the apex body responsible for promoting golf in the city. The committee has played a pivotal role in nurturing talent and elevating the sport’s profile.
“ The role of corporate houses like Tata Steel in promoting golf and other sports cannot be overstated. Over the years, Tata Steel has consistently contributed to the development of sports infrastructure in Jamshedpur, cementing the city’s reputation as a hub for athletic excellence. The inauguration of Night Golf further underscores their commitment to nurturing a vibrant sports culture,” said an official of Jamshedpur Golf Committee
With the launch of Night Golf, Jamshedpur has set a benchmark for other cities in the region. The facility promises to attract both local players and visitors, enhancing the city’s appeal as a golfing destination. As the lights illuminated the Par 3 course for the first time, it marked the dawn of a new era for golf in eastern India.
