Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha has said that farmers can earn good profit through floriculture. In the last 4 years, the area under floriculture cultivation in Madhya Pradesh has increased by 5 thousand hectares. As a result, more than 4 lakh 71 thousand metric tonnes of flowers have been produced by the farmers of the state, which is a record.
Minister Kushwaha said that small-scale farmers in the state who have one or half hectare of land can also earn good income from flower production.
Flower cultivation is ready in less time and it is a cash crop. With this, farmers get immediate cash payment of the crop. Flowers of Madhya Pradesh have a good demand in metros like New Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur. The Horticulture Department is encouraging flower producing farmers.
Nurseries are being made high tech
Minister Kushwaha said that nurseries of the state are being made high tech. For this, an e-nursery portal has also been created. Through this flower and fruit producers are getting good quality seeds and plants at discounted rates. In the 100-day action plan in the state, 20 thousand farmers and youth have been trained in modern techniques.
In this sequence, the first high tech floriculture nursery is being developed in Gwalior at a cost of Rs 13 crore under the National Agricultural Development Scheme. This nursery will use the latest techniques in flower cultivation.
Director Horticulture and Food Processing said that there has been significant progress in the production of flowers in the state in the last four years.
In the year 2021-22, flower cultivation in the state spanned 35 thousand720 hectares, yielding a total production of 4 lakh 12 thousand 730 metric tonnes. Whereas in the year 2023-24, 4 lakh 71 thousand 584 metric tonnes of flowers were produced on 41 thousand 49 hectares, which is 58 thousand 854 metric tonnes more than 2021-22.
