Four ministers of the Hemant Soren government and relatives of former chief ministers of Jharkhand lost the assembly elections, results of which were declared on Saturday.

JMM leader and Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Thakur lost to BJP’s Satyendra Tiwari in Garhwa, while another JMM leader and Education Minister Vaidyanath Ram was defeated by BJP’s Prakash Ram in Latehar.

Wife of former Minister and incumbent Minister Baby Devi also lost to JLKM’s Jairam Mahto in Dumri and Congress leader cum Health Minister Banna Gupta lost to JD (U)’s Saryu Roy in Jamshedpur West.

Despite the landslide victory of the Hemant Soren government, several MLAs of the ruling coalition were badly defeated. Former Agriculture Minister Badal has also faced defeat.

The list of MLAs who lost the polls also includes Amba Prasad at Barkagaon, Umashankar Yadav Akela at Barhi, Neelkanth Singh Munda at Khunti, Amar Bauri at Chandankiyari , Binod Singh at Bagodar, Kedar Hazra at Jamua, Purnima Neeraj Singh at Jharia, Anant Ojha at Rajmahal, Lobi Hembrom at Borio, Randhir Singh at Sarath, Babulal Soren at Ghatsila, Sudesh Mahto at Silli and many others.

Notably, close relatives of former CMs of the State also lost the election. Former CM Arjun Munda’s wife Meera Munda was defeated at Potka at the hands of JMM’s Sanjib Sardar. Also, former CM Madhu Koda’s wife Geeta Koda got defeated at the hands of Congress’ Sona Ram Sinku at Jagannathpur.

Former CM Champai Soren’s son Babulal Soren was also defeated by JMM’s Ramdas Soren at Ghatsila.

The AJSU party, which had fielded 10 candidates in alliance with the BJP, could secure only one seat with its party president Sudesh Kumar Mahto losing the polls at the hand of JMM’s Amit Mahto in Silli.
