In a major update that could significantly impact the upcoming elections, the East Singhbhum district administration has released its revised voter list as part of the Second Summary Voter List Revision Program (SSR-2024). The announcement was made by District Election Officer Ananya Mittal during a press conference at the Collectorate Auditorium, revealing a total of 18,54,767 registered voters in the district.
This substantial voter registration includes 9,27,747 male voters, 9,26,883 female voters, and 137 third-gender voters, showcasing a near-equal gender ratio with 999 women for every 1,000 men. However, the revised list also indicates that 20,748 voters have been removed due to various reasons, reflecting the district's efforts to maintain an accurate and updated electoral roll.
The detailed breakdown of the voter distribution across assembly constituencies presents a clear picture of the electoral landscape in East Singhbhum: Baharagora: 2,38,049 voters, Ghatshila: 2,48,753 voters, Potka: 3,08,074 voters, Jugsalai: 3,48,498 voters, Jamshedpur East: 3,33,227 voters and Jamshedpur West: 3,78,166 voters.
Jamshedpur West emerges as the constituency with the highest number of voters, potentially setting the stage for a highly competitive election in this area.
District Election Officer Ananya Mittal emphasized the importance of the updated voter list for ensuring a transparent and inclusive electoral process. "The voter list is available for inspection at all polling stations, AERO and ERO offices, and the District Election Office. We encourage all eligible citizens to check their status and ensure they are registered to vote," Mittal stated, highlighting the district’s commitment to inclusivity and accuracy.
The press conference also underscored the district's focus on accessibility, noting that the voter list includes 15,825 disabled voters from various categories. This inclusion aligns with the district's broader efforts to ensure that all eligible voters, regardless of physical ability, have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
In line with the State Election Commission's directives, identity cards were distributed to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the event. Notably, District Election Officer Mittal personally handed over identity cards to Sultana Khatun, BLO of booth number 164 in Jugsalai, and Pirdaus Khatun, BLO of booth number 165, underscoring the administration's dedication to equipping electoral staff for the upcoming elections.
With the revision process still open, the district administration has called on all eligible voters to ensure their names are included in the voter list. This proactive approach aims to foster a robust and participatory electoral process in East Singhbhum, as the district gears up for a potentially pivotal election season.
