Thirteen drivers have been arrested in Chhaterpur violence case said the SDPO Chhaterpur Ajay Kumar today.
On Tuesday a lot of drivers had almost hijacked NH 98 in Chhaterpur protesting the recent stringent provisions of hit and run case.
These drivers pelted stones and damaged the car of the local BJP MLA Pushpa Devi besides other public transport.
Four policemen were also hurt. A police man had to remain in hiding for hours before being rescued by other policemen with the help of the anti landmines vehicle as the agitating drivers were just raining stones.
It was a planned violence unleashed by the drivers. The drivers conceived it and executed it with deadly vengeance, said sources.
SDPO Chhaterpur Ajay Kumar said many of the drivers in this violence were retrenched ones.
These drivers who are of Chhaterpur in Palamu were working as drivers in Chhatisgarh but had lost their jobs in Chhattisgarh because their Chhatisgarh transporters fired them for taking part in the 2 day nationwide stir against the new provisions in the hit and run case.
They lost their jobs in Chhattisgarh but were most insensitive to indulge in violence in Chhaterpur in Jharkhand. Local Chhaterpur drivers supported the retrenched ones.
Chhaterpur police acted with utmost restraint despite huge provocations by the drivers who had jammed two vital openings one at Udaigarh More and the other at Karma Kala.
By the time police cleared the jam at Karma Kala, the Udaigarh More saw a jam created by the drivers.
The drivers were heading towards a near clash with the police which the SDPO Ajay Kumar and his team averted tactfully.
Police reinforcements had to come here from Hussainabad, Harihurganj, Nawa Bazaar, Pipra, Daltonganj police line, Naudeeha Bazar, Lathiya, Saraideeh etc
The BJP MLA Pushpa Devi has described the episode as a conspiratorial attack on her. She said it was a conspiracy hatched against her.
She accused the police of laxity and negligence. She said police were informed about her programmes and she was assured of a problem free return of her from Naudeeha Bazar but at Udaigarh More she was attacked and her vehicle was damaged. She said it was a sudden attack launched in the darkness.
