‘DURGOSTAV 2024’ | Revellers to get a glimpse of Rajasthan at OCC Puja pandal

With the festival season just around the corner, the OCC Club Durga Puja Committee is all set to celebrate Durga Puja with a lot of grandeur and traditional gaiety.

Known for its incredible art work amongst the City residents, the OCC Club puja pandal is yet again set to enchant pandal hoppers. In its 54th year at the Old Commissioner Compound, this year the pandal is being decked up on the theme ‘Ek Thudka Rajasthan’ and will have a fictional concept.

The interior design and decoration of the pandal will be done in Rajasthani style with intricate artwork on materials like wood, iron, thread, cloth and rubber. Rajasthani statues made of wood and large elephants made of clay will adorn the pandal.

The pandal will be about 55 feet in height, 125 feet in length and 90 feet in width and is being made at a cost of Rs 28 lakh. As much as 9 tons of iron is being used for the construction of the structure.

Devotees will get a glimpse of an eco- friendly idol of Goddess Durga made of clay and decked up in a Banarasi saree. The jewellery being used to adorn the deity is also said to mesmerizing with its fine craftsmanship. The idol of Goddess Durga will be about 14 feet in height and is being made by local sculptor Ajay Pal.

For the foodies, various food stalls will be put up while for the kids a fair is being organised. On the occasion of Maha Ashtami 56 varieties of food items will be offered to the deity which will also be made available to the devotees at a cost of Rs 601 while on Mahanavmikichdi bhog will be made during the day.

“In Ranchi OCC Club was the first one to start making theme based Durga Puja pandals. Like every year this time too we have come up with a unique theme for the residents. This year a fantasy world of Rajasthan is being created ensuring that it is absolutely eco- friendly. Pandals on the themes of Mowgli, Mahabharat, Lagaan have been made earlier,” said president, Rajendra Singh, OCC Club & Puja Committee.

The total budget set by the committee is about Rs 40 lakh which includes Rs 2 lakh for the idols, Rs 3 lakh for light and sound and Rs 5 lakh for the puja and prasad. The committee will immerse the installed Kalash on the day of Dussehra- October 12 while the immersion procession for the idols will take place the next day.
