n The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch arrested two gang members of Neeraj Bawana gang after a brief exchange of fire and recovered two pistols with 22 live cartridges and a police uniform, used for committing crimes.
According to the police on Tuesday, the accused have been identified as Rahul alias Nakta and Kamaljeet. They said that these individuals were wanted in two-armed robbery cases in Delhi’s Rani Bagh area and Hari Nagar area.
“Additionally, with their arrest, a blind daylight armed robbery of Rajasthan has also been solved. A substantial recovery, including firearms, ammunition, and a police uniform, was made from their possession. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused had been plotting to commit crime,” a senior police official said.
He added that on Monday, a police team was constituted to nab the criminals and according to information team conducted vehicle checks near Khatu Shyam Mandir in Delhi. “At around 11:00 AM, a suspicious grey Hyundai i20 approached the barricade. When signalled to stop, the driver attempted to speed away, tried to flee and collided with the barricade and a road divider,” he said.
“After the crash, accused Rahul tried to flee, firing at the police team when warned to surrender. In response, the police fired a warning shot in the air, enabling the team to overpower him. Simultaneously, the second accused Kamaljeet emerged from the car, also firing at the police,” another officer added.
Two policemen fired additional warning shots, compelling Kamaljeet to drop his weapon and surrender, and was overpowered. Upon interrogation, it was confirmed that, Rahul was wanted in a case and Kamaljeet was wanted in two robbery cases.
“They confessed to committing a previous kidnapping and robbery in Kota, Rajasthan, carried out in broad daylight while disguised as police personnel an incident that had remained unsolved until now,” he said.
Rahul is a Bad Character (BC) of Aman Vihar police station, previously involved in more than 15 criminal cases. “He had been incarcerated in 2014-2015 with members of the Neeraj Bawana-Naveen alias Bali group, became affiliated with their gang,” he said, adding that
