Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia took charge of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections and led a party meeting to discuss its plan which was held at his residence on Sunday evening after his release from prison on bail on Friday from Tihar jail.
Sisodia sprung into action following his bail granted from the Supreme Court in corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. The relief was given to him after the court noted that his long incarceration of 17 months without trial had deprived him of the right to speedy justice.
Delhi Cabinet Minister and senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Ever since Manish Sisodia ji got bail after 17 months, our party workers and the people of Delhi are very excited and happy. People are stopping us on the road and congratulating us.”
Further, Bharadwaj stated that all the senior leaders of the party gathered at his residence to discuss the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. “The people of Delhi will not give even a single seat to BJP in the upcoming elections,” he said.
With Chief Minister and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal still behind bars, his close confidante and second-in-command Manish Sisodia will lead the party’s campaign in the upcoming assembly elections which are expected to be held in early January. Party sources said that AAP leaders feel Sisodia's presence will bolster its election campaign, especially in Delhi where it is looking for a third consecutive term and aiming for a performance similar to that of 2015 and 2020 when it won 67 and 62 seats respectively.
Sisodia held portfolios of 18 departments including education, finance, excise, health and PWD among others besides being deputy of Kejriwal before his resignation on February 28 last year.
