P V Anvar, the independent MLA in the CPI(M)-led LDF has termed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ignorant of the happenings in his office. Anvar, who had declared a ‘war’  against Vijayan’s political secretary P Sasi and additional director general of police M R Ajith Kumar as communalists and corrupts, also said that the State Police has no power to seize the smuggled gold.

“It is for the Customs officials to seize the smuggled gold. But once the smugglers hoodwink the Customs officials and come out of the airport, the police has no right to touch them or the contraband,” said Anvar while addressing a press meet on Saturday evening as a sequel to Chief Minister Vijayan’s press meet in the morning.

The chief minister had scoffed at the charges against Ajith Kumar and Sasi made by Anvar. “The government knows what it has to do and what it was doing. Anvar joined the LDF from Congress and his political culture will be different from that of ours,” Vijayan had said in the presser.

Anvar retorted by claiming that he and EMS Namboodirippad  had begun their political career in the Congress. What happened is that Anvar’s mission to unseat Vijayan from the chief minister’s chair came out in the open in his press meet. Though he was careful not to hurt Vijayan with his words, midway through the press met he lost traction and started criticising the chief minister.

Kerala politics has taken an interesting turn by Saturday as Anvar who has been singing peans to Vijayan till this morning showed his real intention by evening. It became clear that Anvar has sided with gold smugglers when he declared that gold smuggling was not a crime.
