Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh on Tuesday said that the police alone cannot deal with the situation in the violence-hit state and continued assistance from central forces was required. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kukis since May last year. The conflict took a new turn recently as militants deployed drones to launch bomb attacks on villages of the rival community.
Two persons have been killed and 12 others injured in two drone and gun attacks in Sejam Chirang and nearby Koutruk in Imphal West district in the last two days.
