Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Shri Vijender Gupta, commented on the Supreme Court granting bail to Manish Sisodia, stating that Sisodia should not be under any illusion about the bail granted by the Supreme Court. Gupta mentioned that the Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia solely on the basis that he has been in jail for 16-17 months, and there has been a delay in the trial. Bail was given only on this ground. Gupta expressed surprise at the reactions of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, saying that AAP leaders are promoting the notion that Sisodia has been exonerated or acquitted by the court, which is absolutely not the case. By doing this, AAP leaders are deceiving misleading the people of Delhi.
Gupta further stated that Sisodia is the main accused in a liquor scam involving crores of rupees, and the agencies are investigating this scam at their level. The trial of this case will be completed very soon. While granting bail, the court imposed conditions on Sisodia, including a bail bond of Rs. 10 lakhs and mandatory attendance at the police station every Monday.
The Leader of Opposition, Gupta, said that Sisodia is accused of illegally altering Delhi's liquor policy in 2021-22, benefiting liquor traders by crores of rupees, with a significant portion of this profit allegedly given as bribes to AAP leaders. This scam has caused the government to lose crores of rupees in revenue. Gupta added that without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, the then Excise Minister Sisodia gave a waiver of Rs. 144 crores in license fees and removed import duties on beer to benefit license holders. Additionally, a security deposit of Rs. 30 crores was returned to a company that did not meet the tender conditions.
Gupta said that there is no need to celebrate the bail granted by the Supreme Court, nor is there a need to mislead the public, as the public knows the truth and will not fall for their tricks. Calling the bail granted by the court merely a relief, Gupta advised Sisodia to stay away from such misinformation campaigns until the trial is completed.
