Within a fortnight of his party launching the membership drive fixing a target of one crore members from the State Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday warned that the atrocities against the minority Hindus in Bangladesh could lead to "biparit pratikriya (opposite reaction)" in times to come if things were not brought under control o that side of the border immediately.
Taking part in a rally of sadhus which had plans to walk up to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission to submit a deputation, Adhikari said, "the way the minority Hindus are being targeted and tortured in Bangladesh is not unacceptable to us … these atrocities must stop immediately … considering the fact that every action has an opposite reaction."
Adhikari also warned that if the atrocities on the Hindus would not stop then the same rally would march to the Petrapole border along Bangladesh.
"The Hindus are under attack on both sides of the border … on that side they are being attacked and massacred and in this side too, the men of Mamata Banerjee are doing the same thing ... the Hindus are not being allowed to organize Durga Pujas at many places and the Government is siding with the mischief mongers," he said.
The Wednesday's march was taken out by a charitable trust in protest of the current situation in Bangladesh. While the Kolkata Police had initially denied permission to the rally the Calcutta High Court allowed a march with 1000 men. The rally was directed to be stopped at Beck Bagan about a km from the Bangladesh High Commission at Park Circus area.
Meanwhile in curious development the Union Home Ministry has upgraded Adhikari's security to Z category --- all over the country --- following an updated threat assessment by the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Earlier he used to get 'Z' category security only in Bengal and 'Y' category security outside the state
