The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal (AIIMS, Bhopal) celebrated World Arthritis Day, an annual global event dedicated to raising awareness about arthritis and other rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMD). This year’s theme, ‘Living with RMD at All Stages of Life’, highlighted the importance of early detection, timely treatment, and the possibility of a cure for arthritis. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Medicine, PMR, and Orthopedics at AIIMS, Bhopal.
The chief guest for the event was Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS, Bhopal, who delivered an inspiring address emphasizing the need for awareness that arthritis is a curable condition. Prof Singh dispelled the misconception that arthritis is an inevitable consequence of aging, stressing that it can affect people of all ages, including children. He highlighted that with the right treatment at the right moment, arthritis can indeed be cured. Only a small percentage, approximately 10-15% of patients, might require joint replacement surgeries, but many can experience significant improvement in their quality of life through proper care and treatment.
