A 45-year-old woman died of serious injuries after fighting and killing a wild boar but managed to save her young daughter in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, an official said on Monday.
The dramatic incident took place in Teliyamar village when Duvashiya Bai and her daughter Rinki (11) went to a farm to fetch soil on Sunday, Pasan Forest Range officer Ramnivas Dahayat said.
The boar suddenly charged towards her daughter when the woman was digging soil, he said. The woman confronted the animal with the axe in a bid to save her child.
She managed to kill the boar but suffered serious injuries leading to her own death, the officer said.
The girl remained unhurt in the incident.
A relief amount of Rs 25,000 was given to the woman's family as part of the compensation in cases of attack by wild animals, the officer added.
