In a heartwarming gesture, a woman police constable went beyond the call of duty and took care of an infant while the baby’s mother appeared for the Odisha Police Constable Recruitment Examination conducted in Malkangiri district on Sunday.
Basanti Choudhury was deputed at the Malkangiri College while the exam was being conducted. A job aspirant, Chanchala Mallick, turned up at the centre with her four-month-old daughter as she had no one to attend to her baby back home. As she seemed visibly distressed over juggling the role of a mother while taking an exam, Basanti came to her rescue. Basanti not just provided exam-related assistance to Chanchala but offered to babysit the infant and even resorted to breastfeeding to calm down the child.
When asked, Basanti ssid she took permission from higher authorities before helping out the job aspirant.
The Malkangiri SP twitted, “A candidate appearing for Constable (Civil) recruitment examination at Malkangiri was overwhelmed when Constable Basanti Chowdhary, deputed at the venue, took care of her infant baby while she was appearing for the exam. Kudos to both.”
