The Special Task Force (STF), Bhubaneswar conducted a raid in the Unit-8 area in the capital city with the help of the Commissionerate police on Saturday and apprehended a drug peddler and seized 1,107 grams of brown sugar.
The estimated market value of the seized contraband is more than Rs 1 crore.
The peddler was identified as Chittaranjan Sahoo alias Madhu, son of Charan Sahoo of Dinabandhuur in Dhenkanal district. A motorcycle, a mobile phone and other materials were also seized from Sahoo’s possession. Sahoo was residing on rent in a Government quarter.
Sahoo could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of the contraband. He was forwarded to the court of District and Sessions-cum-Special Judge, Khordha at Bhubaneswar under Sections 21(c)/29 of the NDPS Act 1985.
The STF, which is continuing its special drive against illegal narcotic drugs trade from 2020, has seized more than 69 kg of brown sugar, 202 grams of cocaine and more than 113 quintals of ganja, 750 grams of opium and arrested 168 drug dealers or peddlers.
