A 31-year-old married woman committed suicide by hanging with the ceiling at Brij Colony of Nishatpura; she was harassed demanding Rs 5 lakh alleged family members of woman.
The police have not found any suicide note from the deceased. The deceased's father has alleged that the daughter was being tortured for dowry. The son-in-law demanded Rs 5 lakh. After not paying the amount, the daughter was evicted from the in-laws. After this, despite making several requests, the son-in-law did not agree to allow his daughter back home and the woman's family also filed a case against him.
Sabita Meena of Brij Colony used to do household work. She was a B.Com graduate, her father Kishan Lal Meena is a lineman in MPEB.
Kishan Lal Meena told that in 2016 Sabit was married to the accused. In the marriage Rs 50000 cash was given as dowry in the marriage along with all goods. Along with this, an Avenger bike was given. The son-in-law works as a DJ and used to assault his daughter after marriage. He used to pressurise to bring Rs 5 lakh from her house.
Just two months after the marriage, she abandoned her daughter from the house.We made a case against him. The case has been pending in the court for years. A complaint was made to the police, but the police did not help. Eventually daughter committed suicide due to harassment and depression.
Sonu Meena, the brother of the deceased, said that the accused never accepted his sister after marriage. He used to talk to other girls on the phone in the presence of his sister and saw him with other girls many times.
SI Srikant Dwivedi said that the family members have accused the deceased's husband of torturing her. Her husband left her after a few days of marriage. Sabita was living with her mother and father for the past seven years.
